Folding Knives: Spyderco

Spyderco is a very unique and innovative original knifemaker. Innovation is a trait that runs throughout the company philosophy and it shows in their product line. Spyderco was the very first to introduce many new ideas
to the world of knives. Among them: one handed opening using a circle in the blade, serrations on a folder, and a clip to attach the knife to a pocket. Since then, there have been many variants and copies that have come along, but there is only one true original: Spyderco. Made out of top quality steel, Spyderco blades and knife designs are repeatedly tested at the factory testing lab before ever being brought to market. Some of these tests include: edge-retention, anti-rust development, lockback strength, and stress tests.
The thumb-tip circle bored into the steel at the bottom of the blade makes for one of the easiest one-handed openings of any folding knife in the world. And since the circle is within the blade itself, there is nothing external to break off, or catch on clothing when pulling the knife out of your pocket. Spyderco has even patented the concept of a hole drilled into the blade. That is why you won’t see any other knives than Spyderco with the hole. Other companies will use variants, like a groove in the blade, or a nub attached for the thumb, but only Spyderco can use the hole.
This writer currently owns a Spyderco Endura model, and I have to say, it’s the perfect marriage of form and function. It never seems to get dull, and although I’ve had it for five years now, the action is just as quick as the day I bought it. When I clip it to my pocket, it’s so light, thin and smooth that I forget it’s even there. If you’re looking for an extremely well-made, innovative, and quickly deployed cutting tool, a Spyderco is the right choice, for now and years to come.
